Fundraising and Poppy Appeal at the Blackpool Royal British Legion Club

Blackpool RBL has a record second to none in this respect, and hold the Wilkinson Trophy in perpetuity and the international Bucher Trophy, both awards which relate to monies raised for the Poppy Appeal in the club.

Two distinguished Members of the Branch and Club were honoured for their outstanding work over many years for the Royal British Legion.

They have chosen to retire at this time, due to other commitments and health concerns.

Ian Coleman is stepping down as President of the RBL Club, and also as the producer of the long running annual 'Poppython' show. The shows which were created and produced by Ian have raised a total of over one hundred and thirty seven thousand pounds for the Poppy Appeal over the last twenty five years, and ensured that the Club was awarded the International Bucher Trophy more times than any other RBL Club.

The other Legion stalwart honoured at this time was Irene Hargreaves, who has held the position of Poppy Appeal Organiser for Blackpool for over twenty years. Irene has been a familiar figure in Blackpool at Remembrance time, organising and distributing poppies and wreaths, despite various health setbacks.

A special show was held on 22nd October which featured many artists giving their services for the Poppy Appeal. Flowers and framed Certificates were presented to Mr Coleman and Mrs Hargreaves.
